Why This Festival?
1. Almost No English Information Exists
Damyang is a small town right next to Gwangju, well-known among Koreans but virtually invisible to international tourists. Search "Damyang bamboo festival" in English and you'll find basic overviews β but no practical guide on how to get there, what to eat, or which programs to join. All detailed information is Korean only.
2. Stunning Photography
Juknokwon's 2.4 km bamboo forest path is one of Korea's most photogenic spots. Towering bamboo stalks block out the sky, and filtered sunlight creates a natural green cathedral. In early May, fresh bamboo shoots make the forest its most vivid green. Already popular on social media among Korean and international visitors.
3. A Festival You Do, Not Just Watch
Build bamboo kites and fly them. Shoot bamboo water guns. Ride bamboo rafts and canoes on the river. Try bamboo craft-making with master artisans. Over 70 hands-on programs run during the festival. This isn't a viewing festival β it's a doing festival.
4. New This Year: Night Illuminations
The 2026 festival targets "daytime experiences + nighttime stays." The entire festival grounds will feature dramatically enhanced night lighting, transforming the bamboo forest into a completely different atmosphere after dark. Bamboo lit from below, glowing paths through the grove β day and night are two different festivals.

From HelloKorea
Damyang Bamboo Festival is where you spend an entire day wrapped in green. Walk through bamboo forest. Eat bamboo rice. Ride a bamboo raft. Make a bamboo craft. And this year, watch the bamboo light up at night.
25 years of tradition, 650,000 visitors last year, and yet there's almost no way for international travelers to properly plan a visit in English. That's exactly why we're here.
